Phoebe Putney Health System is a not-for-profit integrated healthcare delivery system that serves more than 500,000 residents in a 41-county region of Southwest Georgia. Founded in 1911, Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital is one of Georgia's largest comprehensive regional medical centers. Phoebe is nationally recognized for clinical excellence and innovative community health programs. The Health System employs a network of more than 5,000 physicians, nurses, professional staff, and volunteers.
The flagship hospital, Phoebe Putney Memorial is a 691-bed teaching hospital and a regional center for cancer treatment, cardiac medicine/surgery, gastrointestinal disease, and women’s health services. The Phoebe Cancer Center is one of the busiest and most advanced in the Southeast, and the Phoebe Heart and Vascular Center performs more open heart and cardiac catheterization procedures than all other hospitals in the region combined. Phoebe is one of only six designated perinatal centers in the state of Georgia and the region’s only provider of neonatal intensive care, cardiovascular surgery, and radiation oncology services.
Hospitals in the Phoebe system include Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital North Campus, Phoebe Sumter Medical Center, a 76-bed community hospital in Americus, Georgia, and Phoebe Worth Medical Center, a 25-bed critical access hospital located in Sylvester, Georgia, and Southwest Georgia Regional Medical Center.
Phoebe also operates Phoebe Physicians, a self-governing, not-for-profit network of more than 300 physicians that includes clinics and hospital-based physicians representing a wide range of medical specialties including family medicine, hospitalists, surgeons, and numerous specialists in the field of cardiology, neurology, orthopedics, gastroenterology and more. There are 60 clinics in nine counties. Phoebe’s facilities, advanced medical technologies and treatments, and highly qualified professionals have distinguished the system as a healthcare leader.

Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital was founded in 1911, by Judge Francis Putney. He had three stipulations. One, the hospital be named after his mother, Phoebe Putney. The second, the hospital be built out of brick to be fireproof. And the third, the hospital serve all regardles of the ability to pay.
