Company Overview
Rushton & Company is one of Northeast Georgia’s largest accounting firms, representing more than 1,000 clients throughout the region. With a staff of more than 25 professionals, our firm has broad expertise ranging from standard tax planning and preparation to sophisticated management advisory services and consulting. Our size, expertise and experience have allowed us to partner with a diverse regional client base because we are able to handle the full range of accounting and business planning -- all under one roof.
Company History
1981
Company founder Barclay Rushton started Rushton & Associates (original company name) over a quarter-century ago in a small office on Green Street in the heart of Gainesville, Georgia. Attracted to the beauty and emerging growth region of Northeast Georgia, Rushton moved to this area’s financial and government seat after starting his career in Atlanta. There, he had fielded invaluable experience as a licensed certified public accountant at a large downtown Atlanta firm.
1984
A few years later, the Rushton firm expanded to five employees and moved to a new location on South Enota Avenue, just down the street from its current location. Though still small in size, the firm was gaining a well-earned reputation for personal service, professional expertise and a strong devotion to community service.
1997
Chris Hollifield, who joined Rushton & Company in 1994, was named a full partner in 1997. His experience and specialization in government and non-profit audits greatly expanded the firm’s growing span of services. In addition, Hollifield’s community involvement continued to build upon a tradition of civic service.
2000
Rushton & Company took a big step in expanding its client base with the merger of the practice with the Walden and Crowe accounting firm. Sally Walden-Crowe, who remains with the firm as Senior Tax Consultant, has added a high level of expertise in tax and estate planning for businesses and high-wealth individuals.
2002
The management team was further expanded with the addition of the firm’s third partner, Perry Barnett, who moved his practice from another Gainesville-area accounting firm. Barnett, who today oversees the firm’s Business Services division, also brought experience and a strong background in corporate banking. He specializes in accounting and business planning for a wide variety of industries, including manufacturing and construction. In keeping with the firm’s reputation for community service, Barnett coaches youth sports and serves on the board of several local non-profits.
Today
The firm moved to its present office building in February 2003. In July 2008 the firm completed an 8,000 square foot addition to effectively double its existing executive office space. The impressive and expanded office site lies in a new location on South Enota Avenue in a rapidly growing medical corridor for Gainesville and Northeast Georgia. Rushton & Company now numbers more than 25 professionals and is poised to continue its growth into becoming the region’s largest and most successful locally based accounting firm.
