- Tax Planning & Advisory Lead
Description
Asset Management Group (AMG) is an independent wealth management and financial planning firm in Cartersville, Georgia. We are expanding our tax planning capabilities and looking for an experienced tax professional who wants to use their expertise in a different way.
This is not a traditional tax preparation role.
We're looking for someone who enjoys the advisory side of the profession—solving complex tax problems, working with successful individuals and business owners, and helping clients make better decisions before the tax consequences are already determined.
As our Tax Planning & Advisory Lead, you'll serve as an internal tax resource and work directly alongside our financial advisors to bring tax expertise into the broader financial planning process. You'll have the opportunity to build deeper relationships with clients, collaborate across disciplines, and help shape how tax planning is delivered within a growing advisory firm.
What You'll Do
- Provide proactive, year-round tax planning for high-income individuals, families, and closely held business owners
- Review individual and business tax returns to identify planning opportunities, risks, and areas requiring further analysis
- Develop tax projections and evaluate multi-year planning strategies
- Advise on business-owner tax considerations, including entity structure, owner compensation, retirement plans, succession planning, and business transitions
- Evaluate tax implications surrounding liquidity events, business sales, and other significant financial decisions
- Identify individual planning opportunities involving retirement distributions, Roth conversions, charitable giving, capital gains, and other tax strategies
- Research complex tax matters and translate technical tax concepts into practical recommendations for clients and advisors
- Monitor changes in tax law and proactively identify how those changes may affect AMG clients
- Help educate our advisory team on tax issues and planning opportunities
- Prepare and/or oversee individual income tax returns as AMG expands tax preparation as part of our client offering
- Help develop the processes, technology, and standards that will support AMG's growing tax planning capabilities
Why This Opportunity Is Different
We aren't expecting someone to walk in already knowing how a wealth management firm approaches tax planning. We can teach you how we integrate tax strategy into the broader financial planning process.
What we're looking for is much harder to teach: a strong tax foundation, experience working with successful business owners and individuals, sound professional judgment, curiosity, and the ability to recognize opportunities beyond simply preparing an accurate return.
For someone coming from public accounting or a traditional tax environment, this is an opportunity to spend more time on the advisory work—developing deeper relationships with a smaller group of clients and participating in decisions involving their businesses, investments, retirement, estate planning, and overall financial lives. Tax preparation and planning is an important part of the role because we believe having direct visibility into our clients' tax returns creates better opportunities for planning. The goal isn't simply to prepare the return—it's to use what we learn from it to help clients make better decisions throughout the year.
You'll also have the opportunity to help us build something. Tax planning is an important part of AMG's future, and this person will have a meaningful voice in shaping how we deliver it.
Our culture is collaborative, relationship-driven, and intentionally approachable. We value people who take ownership, exercise sound judgment, communicate well, remain curious, and genuinely care about the people they serve.
If you've built a successful career in tax but find yourself increasingly drawn to the advisory side of the profession, we'd love to have a conversation.
